The green chara (Cyanocorax yncas), 2 also called querrequerre magpie, green magpie, brown magpie and yellow-green carriquí, is a species of passerine bird of the Corvidae family that lives in America. This brightly colored bird is distinguished from many others by its complex social organization.

Description
It measures from 20 to 25 cm. The plumage of the dorsal part of its wings is dark green. Its belly and feathers on the legs and rump are yellow. It has a black throat patch like the rest of its head except for a blue crown, some markings on the cheeks, and some "eyebrows" of the same blue color. On the face, it has a down that goes from dark blue to gray depending on the individual. The iris is yellow, a character that differentiates it from its congener Cyanocorax yncas luxuosus whose iris is black. The two subspecies of C. yncas are the only two in the genus that have neither blue nor purple wings, but green; which contradicts the etymology of the name "Cyanocorax" which comes from the Greek and means "dark blue Raven".

Behavior
They generally live in pairs and in groups that are often numerous. They eat insects, fruits, eggs, and sometimes chicks. They nest in trees or shrubs, some in holes. They lay up to 8 eggs and their incubation lasts 22 days. The chicks remain in the nest for 45 days. Its flight is strong and short.

Habitat
Lowlands to humid highlands; deciduous forest, secondary vegetation, bushes, pine-oak forests.

Distribution
It is distributed from southern Texas to Honduras; also in Colombia to the north of Bolivia. In Mexico it is located on the Pacific slope of Nayarit to the south; on the Gulf slope from the lower part of the Rio Bravo valley south and east through the Yucatan Peninsula. In Venezuela, to the north along the entire coastal mountain range and Andean mountain range.
